Description
Summary:System integration of detection and evacuation for autonomous evacuation navigation (AEN) has been proposed to overcome indoor wayfinding problems during emergency evacuation; especially for unfamiliar occupants. Designed with intelligent and dynamic features, the AEN system manages to eliminate human as an agent and able to guide occupants out of the building using the safest and shortest route. This function has been proven by the results of the experimental study conducted at a two-floor area in a high-rise, multilevel and close concept office building. Therefore, to further strengthen the reliability of the AEN system, we did a comparison study on the obtained results from the experiment with a simulation modeling using the Pathfinder software. With respect to the safest and shortest path, and total time taken to reach the exit, we put forward the same conditions and methodologies for the simulation modeling. The homogeneity of variances is verified, followed by an analysis and comparison of the time taken to get to the nearest stairs exit. The result shows the same significant time taken for both experimental and simulation. Hence, we concluded the AEN system is a reliable system to solve wayfinding’s problem during an emergency evacuation, specifically for unfamiliar occupants.
