Summary: | The interoperability of charging systems is essential for the successful adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs). Interoperable charging systems reduce the cost of installing charging infrastructure and make it easier for drivers to charge their vehicles, no matter where they are. However, the lack of interoperability between service providers charging systems has been identified as an obstacle in the EV industry, creating a barrier against the development of the industry and the general acceptance of EVs among EV Users. This study investigated methods to increase the accessibility of charging stations for EV users, by proposing the development of the Data Exchange Interoperability Protocol (DEXIP) for EV infrastructure. DEXIP was implemented using a RESTFul WEB API for supporting the increase of charging stations for EV users and tested to evaluate its feasibility and effectiveness, with results indicating that it is suitable for supporting the increase of charging stations for EV users through an EV Charging Management System. This study contributes to the cross-network charging facilities for EV Owners by proposing a standard communication protocol that grants users access to more charging spots and eliminates their range anxiety and increases the accessible number of charger points. |
