The main consideration of using wood carving is basically on aesthetic aspect. However, direct piercing carved wood panel (DPCWP) is able to help in natural ventilation and allow natural lighting in the interior of the building during the day. In addition, DPCWP, which is of various patterns and element, is envisaged of being able to help in achieving proper acoustics quality in enclosed rooms. This is primarily considering its ability to allow sound to pass through easily, which suggests DPCWP is a form of sound absorption material. This anticipation is illustrated through applications of DPCWP in a tradition and modern mosque elaborated in this chapter. Penerbit UTM 2007 Book Section PeerReviewed Dimon, Mohamad Ngasri and Abd.
