These insights have contributed to the notion of HRD itself. One cannot discuss HRD without acknowledging the various disciplines from which it has borrowed (Brooks and Nafukho, 2006). The HRD concept emerges from the classical approach in management principles (Taylorism – scientific management), productivity improvement (Howthorne studies – behaviorism) and teamwork and group dynamics (Tavistock Institute and T-groups). So many scholars from various fields (industrial psychology, organization behavior, management, industrial relations, engineering etc) have contributed in improving the performance of individuals, processes and organizations (Wimbiscus, 1995).
