Summary: | The electricity demand increase significantly with the rapid industry development. Malaysia is currently depending mostly on fossil fuels to generate electricity particularly from natural gas. The fossil fuel based electricity generation produce greenhouse gas especially carbon dioxide. Alternatively, biogas from sewage treatment plant is a high potential bioenergy source and it can be effectively utilized to meet ever-increasing demand as well as reduce the emissions.. This paper presents a mathematical model to identify the optimal location of centralized sewage treatment plant (STP) for electricity generation in Iskandar Malaysia, with the aim of maximizing the economic performance. Given a set of existing STP, potential location of new centralized STP, the number of population equivalent (PE), distance between existing STP and new STP plant, the proposed model is able to determine the optimal location of new centralized STP that economically feasible to meet electricity demand requirement. |
