Description
Summary:Zakat is one of the important instruments in the economic ecosystem of Muslims. The importance of zakat to Muslims can be seen from several aspects such as individuals, communities and countries. According to Patmawati (2008), in the Muslim community, zakat institutions function as a mechanism to address the problem of poverty, secure socioeconomic justice and provide a condition that enables people to maintain honor and exercise responsibility towards Allah Almighty. Zarina et al. (2012) also explain that zakat plays a catalyst for the revival of the country's economy. Meanwhile, Fuadah (2004) found that the zakat distribution made by the Islamic Religious Council of Malacca had reduced the poverty rate in the state of Malacca. In this regard, al-Qaradawi (1973) argues that the glory of Islam can be restored if the Muslims perform zakat and the zakat institution can supply it regularly. Apart from the importance of zakat in economic terms, it also has a positive effect on mental and mental health. According to Mohd Nasir et al. (2016), the nature of sincerity and understanding of the purpose of zakat worship are two important elements for improving the health of the soul. This is because, zakat can foster positive attitudes, such as sincerity, compassion and gratitude. In addition, zakat can avoid negative attitudes, such as greed, arrogance and self-esteem.
