Description
Summary:In this study, the implementation of an off-line optimization for PID controller using two swarm intelligence algorithms with MATLAB and Simulink Tools simulation for the laboratory-scaled upgraded water distribution system (UWDS), is executed. Using a newly developed transfer function for the automated water level controller in the UWDS, a PID controller applied to the system is optimized using the Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) and Grey Wolf optimization (GWO) technique to increase the performance of the controller. The obtained optimum result from the optimization allows more efficient and higher stability of the system which gives better automated control during the transfer of water from the supply tank to the reservoir tank. The optimization is compared between the previous water distribution system (WDS) and UWDS while analyzing the performance of both optimization techniques on the PID controller, PID-PSO, and PID-GWO. From the results obtained, the second order transfer function yields the best results when applied with both PSO and GWO optimization techniques.
