Description
Summary:The wireless requirement of many applications for sensor networks and in many cases their independent power sources, makes the task of increasing the lifetime and the efficiency of the network challenging. Cooperative information processing between the nodes is represented mainly by the routing protocol. In mobile WSN, the routing protocol has to achieve a certain level of efficiency that prolongs the network life-time. This goal can be achieved by controlling the routing choice metrics of the routing protocol. This paper presents our routing metric which is based on the information from the neighboring nodes. This information includes the residual energy of the neighboring nodes and the received signal strength indicator (RSSI). This paper reports the implementation of our metrics on the AODV routing protocol and the simulation results using the network simulator 2 (NS2). The results show significantly better energy efficiency with equivalent system throughput. © 2012 IEEE.
