Summary: | This study was conducted to identify the relationship between perception of risk and critical thinking skills and the intervening role of personal reflection as well as thrill and adventure seeking and experience seeking personality traits among university students who participated in mountaineering adventure in Peninsular Malaysia. 112 university students that were selected by means of cluster sampling had completed the administered questionnaire. Data obtained have empirically proven that perception of risk, personal reflection, thrill and adventure seeking personality trait, experience seeking personality trait, and critical thinking skills had a positive and significant relationship among them. The study also shows that the relationship between perception of risk and critical thinking skills was partially mediated by personal reflection. This study also shows that the thrill and adventure seeking trait acted as a quasi-moderator of the relationship between perception of risk and critical thinking skills
but that the experience seeking trait was found not to be a moderator between the two variables. This study showed that a high perception of risk towards adventure mountaineering expeditions increased critical thinking skills through a mediating factor of
personal reflection for those who possess the thrill and adventure seeking personality trait |
