Summary:The purpose of this research is to measure the level of understanding of teachers on the 20 elements of IS0 9000 in school (management system). The research respondents are among teachers in secondary schools in the area of Hulu Perak. Specifically this research looks at the understanding of the teachers based on demographic factors which form the independent variables such as gender, age, academic qualification, experience and of job status. The 20 elements of IS0 9000 form the independent variables which are based on the Development Circular of the Public Service Volume 2, year 1996 issued by the Prime Ministers Department. The IS0 9000 elements in this research are based upon quality management system models which are the Crosby’s 14 points model, the Juran’s Trilogy model and Deming’s 14 points model. The research questionnaires consist of 2 parts. Part A is on demographic factors and Part B is about the 20 elements of IS0 9000 which are adapted to the environment of the school management. The Likert scale is used to measure the understanding level of teachers namely; totally do not understand, understand slightly, understand averagely, understand and understand fully. The sample size of this research consists of 168 teachers. Every data obtained was analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 7.5. The statistical analysis was done using the Pearson Correlation, T-test and One Way Anova. The statistical test was taken at level p = 0.01 and p = 0.05. The findings of the research is that 76.2% or 128 from 168 respondents understood the 20 elements of IS0 9000. About 23.8% or 40 respondents did not understand the elements of IS0 9000. The conclusion of this research is that the understanding level of the teachers on the 20 elements of IS0 9000 is influenced by demographic factors though it is not too dominant. The teachers who have only been recently in service did not understand the elements of IS0 9000. However the level of understanding increases as the teachers grow older, acquire better qualification, more experience and advance in their career.
