Description
Summary:All organisations require human capital to function and accomplish their goals. Human capital is the most important resource in an organization since it has a significant direct impact on the organization's success. Thus, managing human resources should include provision of a comprehensive employee benefits plan to the employees. The Employee Benefits plan is an integral part of total compensation packages offered by employers to their employees. Despite its importance, there is a large gap in the application, especially in the areas of compensation and benefits. Thus, this paper attempts to examine the similarities and differences in the employee benefits practices in hotel businesses. Using semi-structured interview design, we captured information from three different hoteliers, and managed to highlight the similarities and differences in their employee benefits practice. The analysis depicts a common practice which is associated with compulsory requirement set by the government or the mandatory benefits. Furthermore, these hotels also provide discretionary or additional benefits - unique and distinguished to their own operations such as accommodation, uniform and laundry service, staff funds and monetary incentive for excellent job performance. Thus, the employee benefits plan is imperative in running a successful business. The idea is to create job satisfaction by providing the employees enough benefits and incentives in order to maximize their productivity. Research has proven that a happier workforce is more productive and people will remain loyal and stay longer in their jobs.
