Summary:This research aimed to study the images of death in Emily Dickinson’s poetry. The factors including Emily Dickinson private life and cultural and religious circumstances were also analyzed for a further understanding of the causes of Dickinsion’s preoccupation with death. The samples of this study were a number of Dickinson’s poems which had death as a central theme. The poems were categorized according to the images of death that they presented. The findings revealed four categories of the images of death as follows: 1) death as a personal enemy 2) death as an equalizer 3) death as a destiny 4) death and immortality.
