Description
Summary:Goodness has long been one of the most prominent features of literature because it completely covers positive aspects of human beings. According to the conception of art for human’s sake, literature was born to primarily serve mankind, and as a result, the duty of a literary work for human’s sake is to advocate the good as well as censure the bad. It has been publicly acknowledged that moral education for children must be carried at an early age. Thus, in “A Little Princess” – a novel for children, Frances Hodgson Burnett conveyed her message of goodness to her readers, especially young ones. With particular regard for the good in a British literary work, the researcher would like to pursue a research entitled: “The inclination to the good in “A Little Princess” by Frances Hodgson Burnett”. The major method adopted throughout the study is qualitative method, which enables researcher to discover the true essence of positive and negative characters in “A Little Princess”. Thanks to this approach, the researcher is able to unfold the development of the good throughout the story. The major findings of the research have already been examined throughout the research. The researcher would like to summarize in three main ideas. Firstly, goodness can appear anywhere. Secondly, the protagonist’s goodness is indicated through Sara’s three key aspects: her great dignity, belief and hope. Lastly, Burnett fully exposed the greed and indifference of the upper class, which highlights the goodness of children in a cut-throat world.
