Though readers mostly remember Stowe of her novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Stowe has contributed considerable part in American literature in terms of the theme slavery. In this graduation paper, focuses are paid to the fate and struggle of slaves in the novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. As such, it contains five main parts. Chapter one is to deal with the definition of novel and its characteristics. In chapter two, American literature in the first half of nineteen century is going to be displayed, in which the first subpart is about the historical backgrounds, which influence the work of Stowe, and the second one discusses the literature movement in her time. Harriet Beecher Stowe’s life and writing career as well as information and summary of the novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin are mentioned in chapter three in detail.
