Summary:This paper is a discovery of romantic elements in three fairy tales "The Nightingale and the Rose", "The Happy Prince", and "The Selfish Giant" by Oscar Wilde. The Introduction gives the rationale for the study and sets up the scope of the study. Chapter 1 constitutes the theoretical background on which the study is based. It displays the issues relevant to the chosen topic: literature, fairy tales and romantic elements in literature. Chapter 2 presents Decadent literature and the author Oscar Wilde with his three fairy tales. Most importantly, chapter 3 focuses on romantic elements as shown in the description of nature, in characters sketch and in the writing style. In particular, the portrayal of the characters working on their feelings, fine qualities and deaths as well as the presence of religious characters is dominantly dealt with. Finally, the conclusion summarizes all the main points discussed in the whole paper.
