Summary: | Since the first decades of the twentieth century, the world has followed a strong trend of globalization. Under the significant impacts of globalization, quite a few modernistic changes occurred, namely the integration trend witnessing the advancement of non-governmental organizations and multinational business firms. Along with this trend, it is also worth noticing the vigorous independence inclination of territories and indigenous minority. Great attention has been paid to this issue, especially the Scottish Independence Referendum 2014, which threatened to break the 307-year relationship between the United Kingdom and Scotland. The aims of this research are to examine the grounds for the referendum, its potential influences on Scotland in particular, UK and Europe in general as well as the sentiment of Scottish people toward this referendum. To carry out this study, the researcher carefully gathered information related to the Scottish Independence Referendum 2014 before finally arrived at a profound insight by a process of reasonable deductions and detailed analysis. The findings revealed that the Scottish Parliament led by Prime Minister Alex Salmond called for this independence referendum considering Scotland’s history, their robust economy together with great displeasure with Westminster’s ineffective policies. In addition, this referendum exerted remarkable impacts on principally economic, political and social aspects. Moreover, the Scottish people perceived various attitudes towards this referendum.
