description his study “An analysis of interpersonal meaning used in selected mother song lyrics by Trinh Cong Son (A study based on Systemic Functional Linguistics perspective)” aims at examining the interpersonal meaning realized in the lyrics of mother songs by Trinh Cong Son. The objectives of this study are to describe the types of Mood and Modality realized in the lyrics of selected mother songs by Trinh Cong Son. The theoretical framework that is adopted to investigate Mood and Modality in the lyrics is Systemic Functional Linguistics. The methodology employed in the research is descriptive qualitative. The main sources of data in this research are the lyrics in three mother songs by Trinh Cong Son. After listening and fnding printed lyrics of the songs, the author will analyze the clauses and describe the dominant Mood types as well as the Modality elements in clauses of songs. Lastly, the author will draw the conclusion of this study. The result of the study shows the declarative mood is the dominant type and a few of modalities are used in the lyrics.
