Summary:Translation and Interpretation Training has recently been given more attention at the University of Languages and International Studies. New courses have been introduced to deepen the student’s knowledge and ensure better results and one of them is the course “Interpretation for Specific Purposes”. However, as students found themselves struggle to interpret the audio sunder the “Culture” theme, attributing their dissatisfaction of their performance to the audio quality. Therefore, this study was conducted with an aim to examine the quality of the audios and its impact on student’s performance of consecutive interpreting tasks in five aspects: (1) Signal – Noise Ratio, (2) Rate of delivery, (3) Accent, (4) Rhythm & Stress, and (5) Technical Terms. Both quantitative and qualitative approach was adopted to complete this research with thorough analysis of the audios and in-depth questions of the students’ well as author’s viewpoints of each factor of quality. Results showed that the low ratings of each quality aspects had visible impact on student’s performance. Among the 5 criteria, Rate of delivery and Accent did not cast any significant influence, while the remaining three aspects: Signal – Noise Ratio, Rhythm & Stress and Technical Terms did. Audios were sorted into groups with different overall quality that either need modifications or act a reference for future selection of audio materials. Suggestions for users and editors of the audios were also drawn.
