Mondejar, Mikhaella Ellis A. Sengson, Kamea Isabel V. Studying is not uncharted territory for most, especially students. Some prefer to work in silence, some with ambient noise playing background, and although rare, some prefer heavy music. This study compared different music genres for students who listen to music while studying. The objective of this study was to determine which genre is most effective for focus and academic performance. Forty-seven Miriam College Nuvali Senior High School students were involved in the study, where 37 responded that they listen to music while studying, while 10 students said otherwise. Then, the experiment involved 22 of 37 students who agreed to participate. Their preferences in music are the key component in determining which music genre/s is most used by students when studying. The three most preferred music genres used in the experiment are Pop, Lo-fi, and R&B, while Metal is the least preferred music genre to listen to. The data obtained from the experiment revealed the mean score of the test done with Lo-fi music (13.86) is greater than the rest of the conditions: Pop (12.81), R&B (12.05), No Music (10.82), Metal (10.55). The feedback of the participants stated that the highest positive responses were Lo-fi music (20), followed by R&B (14), Pop (10), No Music (7), and then Metal (3). This study is a simple and affordable method of enhancing learning. The study can help contribute to students’ success and learning. 2022-05-12T20:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/conf_shsrescon/2022/poster_cli/6 DLSU Senior High School Research Congress Animo Repository music genre focus academic performance cognitive performance mood Social and Behavioral Sciences |
