Synthesis of cobalt (II) phthalocyanine-doped TiO2 as a photocatalyst for the degradation of Benzene as a representative volatile organic compound

In order to sensitize the titanium (IV) oxide photocatalyst towards visible light, the photocatalyst was modified via horizontal vapor phase growth technique through the addition of cobalt (II) phthalocyanine into its crystal lattice. The prepared nanomaterials were characterized using scanning elec...

Valdellon, Derrick S. In order to sensitize the titanium (IV) oxide photocatalyst towards visible light, the photocatalyst was modified via horizontal vapor phase growth technique through the addition of cobalt (II) phthalocyanine into its crystal lattice. The prepared nanomaterials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX). Characterization results show that the titanium (IV) oxide nanoparticles were deposited on the surfaces of the cobalt (II) phthalocyanine nanostructures as well as separate nanoclusters wedged in between the network of cobalt (II) phthalocyanine microcrystals. Further testing included photocatalytic testing with benzene as a model volatile organic compound monitored by gas chromatography equipped with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID) with results showing highly enhanced photocatalytic activity as compared to TiO2. Both results provided that CoPc was successfully doped in the crystal lattice of TiO2, which supported its photocatalytic activity to degrade benzene. 2014-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/9442 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Organic compounds Benzene Chemicals
