Summary: | This study involves both the responses of Coconut coir (Cocos Nucifera Linn.) pulps to bleaching and the variations of the strength of the pulps under different pulping conditions. It was found out that coconut coir produced a low yield of kraft or sulfate pulp (42.01 percent-47-83 percent), exhibiting relatively low strength properties. The effects of some key parameters (as e.g. beating time, chemical concentration) contributed to a further decrease of the strength as well as physical properties of the experimental filter paper as compared to that of the commercial filter paper. The best concentration of the chemical solution that gave satisfactory physical characteristics of the experimental filter paper conditions was determined at 20-8 and 25-8 (percent NaOH and percent Na2S respectively). |
