Most drivers today have one common problem regarding parking: the lack of it. Today, looking for a place to park in commercial establishments have become a tiresome, gasoline-wasting and time consuming task. This is complicated by the rise of multi-level parking areas. This thesis aims to minimize, if not eliminate, the problems connected with mall parking by introducing a PC-based monitoring system which has the capability of giving momentary parking slot occupancy information to the driver. CRTs placed at strategic locations within a parking area instantaneously update drivers on the availability of vacant parking slots. The system employs polling in data handling and is designed to monitor up to a good number of parking slots, i.e. slightly in excess of the number found in the Greenbelt Mall Parking Area. The design of the system is also flexible, that is, the number of slots to be monitored is immaterial (provided it does not exceed the maximum limit) and depends mainly on the needs of the parking area.
