Summary: | This thesis aims to examine the power dynamics between an authoritative figure and their respective employees, specifically within the context of the Philippine show business (coined as 2showbiz3) industry. Furthermore, this thesis will explain how the variable of sex has become a factor in the interactions found within the working environment of the show business industry, as well as how sex has become a 2necessity3 for a working individual to enhance their own career because of the tolerance subsequently bought about the lack of opportunities for lower class individuals. The product of this research is 2Kasting kol3 (Casting call), a 17-minute short feature film about Arci, a woman struggling to make it in the Philippine showbiz industry. She [Arci] meets Direk Teddy who seems to be her window to living the glamorous life she so desires. She does everything she can to gain his favor, in the hopes that she may get the role that will finally bring her out of the working class.
The said film endeavors to create a narrative on the culture of sexual harassment that goes on within the Philippine showbiz industry, particularly within audition and casting call environments. Likewise, the film aims to envision the play of power dynamics between the supposed abuser and the abused through the interactions of a director and their respective talents within the audition process, as well as the portrayal of class struggle from those of the lower classes as they resort to doing whatever they can to have similar opportunities as those from the upper classes. |
