Pollen concentration in Las Piñas for the month of November 1994 and its vegetation sources

The concentration of airborne pollen was calculated in the Las Piñas area from November 8 to November 31, 1994. A Burkard recording volumetric spore trap consisting of a 7 or 24 hour sampling head and a suction pump was used for the atmospheric sampling of the pollens. Samples were mounted on a microscope slides for microscopic examination. Pollens were identified during pollen counting through the use of reference slides prepared by Acetolysis method. Four (4) allergenic pollens were identified and recorded, two (2) grasses and two (2) weeds. The grass pollens identified are Pennisetum polystachyon (L.) Schult. (foxtail. The weed pollens are Mimosa pudica Linn. (makahiya) and Amaranthus spinosus Linn. (pigweed). The most abundant among these pollens identified for the month of November was pigweed while the least was makahiya. Pollen concentration was at its maximum on November 29, 1994 (233.4 x 10 10/m3 of air). The lowest peak was on November 28, 1994 (29.18 x 10 10/m3 of air).
