Description
Summary:This study aims to investigate the impact of desensitization to pornographic materials among male Filipino college students. This study answered the following research problems: (1) Is desensitization related to porn viewing? (2) Is observational learning related to porn viewing? (3) Is desensitization to pornography related to porn viewer's (a) promiscuity level, (b) genital image and (c) practice of safe sex? and (4) Is pornographic observational learning related to porn viewer's (a) promiscuity level, (b) genital image and (c) practice of safe sex? To provide answers to the questions mentioned, the researchers administered to 196 participants a compilation of instruments including the Porn use Questionnaire, Desensitization to Pornographic Films, Pornographic Film Observational Learning Scale, Male Genital Image Scale, Male Promiscuity Scale and Sexual Risks Scale. Results show that frequency of viewing is a strong determinant for observational learning. It was also found to be related to the promiscuous tendencies among males. However, it was not reported to be a significant factor for genital satisfaction and practice of safer sex. Desensitization was related to the three independent variables. Desensitized individuals show a predilection towards promiscuity, develop low genital image and lower attitude towards safer sex.
