Pyrolysis study of residual fuel oil using a thermogravimetric analyzer

This study involved the pyrolysis of residual fuel oils using a thermogravimetric analyzer. The experiment was conducted in order to determine the thermal characteristics of the three samples. The kinematic viscosity of each sample was obtained using a Saybolt Viscosimeter. The other physical charac...

The experiment was conducted in order to determine the thermal characteristics of the three samples. The kinematic viscosity of each sample was obtained using a Saybolt Viscosimeter. The other physical characteristics of each sample were also tested like the flash point, carbon residue, bottom sediment and water, water content, and pour point. The pyrolysis tests were done under argon atmosphere using heating rates of 5, 10, and 50 centigrade/min up to temperatures of 600, 800, and 1000 centigrade. The effects of different heating rates and hold temperatures were determined by analyzing the thermogravimetric curves. Kinetics of the bunker oil samples were deduced from the data obtained on the thermogravimetric curves. To be able to do this, the Coats and Redfern equation was used. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that for the three samples, the activation energy increases with increasing heating rate. The least viscous sample also had the highest activation energy. 1997-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/9833 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Pyrolysis Petroleum as fuel Thermogravimetry Gravimetric analysis Thermal analysis x2 Fuel oil
