Behavior of short reinforced concrete columns under biaxial bending

Biaxial bending usually occurs at columns located at the corners of structures, specifically buildings. This condition happens when a column bends about both major axes of the cross-sectional area at the same time. Columns experience biaxial bending together with a compressive axial load. This resea...

So Chan, Gerard Philip A. Biaxial bending usually occurs at columns located at the corners of structures, specifically buildings. This condition happens when a column bends about both major axes of the cross-sectional area at the same time. Columns experience biaxial bending together with a compressive axial load. This research attempts to come up with an experimental setup that could simulate such phenomenon and observe the behavior of a short RC column loaded as such. The researchers had to fabricate a metal truss which held the specimen in place as the loading occurred. This was attached to the beam test rig found in the STRC. Two (2) hydraulic jacks were used to apply the vertical and lateral loads onto the columns. Load cells and displacement transducers attached to a data logger were utilized for the measurement of the needed parameters. To determine the reliability of the proposed experimental setup, the actual values were compared to theoretical values using equations derived mathematically for biaxial bending. Graphs and pictures are provided in this research to show the experimental procedures and results of the experiments. 2006-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/9921 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Reinforced concrete construction Reinforced concrete--Design and construction Columns, Concrete--Testing Concrete--Testing
