Emotion regulation, personality and social factors: Their role in risky behavior engagement of happy Thursday participants

Students along Taft Avenue have a weekly practice of partaking in happy Thursday festivities. These events foster merriment and certain risk taking behavior such as alcohol consumption, cigarette usage and sexual behavior. The present study aims to measure personality and social factors as predictors of risk taking behavior. Emotion regulation was also sought to be a moderator towards this relationship. Two hundred two participants from Taft based campuses were given online surveys regarding the variables included. The results indicated that extraversion, conformity, and peer influence were significant predictors of risk taking behavior. However, emotion regulation did not act as a moderator on the relationship between those predictors and risk taking behavior.
