Absract. PC modems are an indispensable addition for today's computer needs. They have become necessary for a number of computer users for use in corporate e-mail and for fast data transfer and acquisition via the internet and local electronic bulletin boards. The Feature-Enhanced PC Modem improves on an ordinary PC modem by being able to receive data even when the host computer is absent. Voice and data messages will be received and will be stored in the unit's own non-volatile memory subsystem. Fax messages can also be detected and routed to a fax machine. The unit can operate without the intervention of communications software and the stored data can be retrieved by the user at any time. In addition, voice messages can be played back by the system.
