A 17-minute video documentary entitled, Christopher at Lorena Sa Duyan ng Dibdib , which features husband and wife Christopher and Lorena Rivera telling how their partnership in practicing breastfeeding evolved. It aims to show how beneficial breastfeeding is to both the mother and the child, and how the father's involvement is necessary for breastfeeding to work. The video also covers uncommon breastfeeding practices such as wet nursing and male breastfeeding. Wet nursing involves a nursing mother breastfeeding another mother's child. It has been part of the early Filipino culture but was overtaken by commercialism. This practice is slowly being revived in mother-baby friendly hospitals and day care centers such as the one run by ARUGAAN (an NGO supporting working mothers and breastfeeding) in PIA (Phil. Information Agency). Male breastfeeding literally involves a father who undergoes lactation and possible breastfeeding in emergency situations, e.g. the mother dies and there's no other available nursing mother. In this video documentary Christopher, the father, is shown using a lact-aid breastfeeding device. The proponents' objectives are to educate and enlighten the audience, especially males, about the benefits of breastfeeding. It is hoped that this video documentary will encourage viewers to have a more supportive attitude towards breastfeeding and an appreciation of how this practice can result in a tighter bond between the mother, the father and their child. 1999-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/10178 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Documentary films--Philippines Breastfeeding in literature Wet nurses Broadcast and Video Studies |
