Dylanco, Dyan Marie Fortich, Irene Joy Tan, ,Carla Grace Discipline refers to the system of teaching and nurturing that prepares children' to achieve competence, self-control, self-direction, and caring for others. The study investigates the disciplinary methods employed by parents who belong to high socioeconomic status and low socioeconomic status. The study also takes into consideration the gender and birth order of the child which may affect the kind of discipline the parents employ. To gather data, in-depth interview was employed using an unstructured interview guide. The participants were obtained through the use of purposive sampling method. The families from low socioeconomic status reside in Leveriza, Malate while the families from high socioeconomic status reside in Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa. Families from both economic statuses were composed of 2-4 children whose parents have been married for 20 years or less. Results show that mothers from low socioeconomic status inflict physical discipline and verbal reprimands, they also use instruments like belts or hangers to discipline their children. While mothers from high socioeconomic status also inflict phycial discipline and verbal reprimands, plus deprivation of privileges to discipline their children. In low socioeconomic status, physical discipline are employed for both gender while verbal reprimands are employed more often to the female child than to their male child. In high socioecoomic status, physical discipline is more prevalent in males than in female children, verbal reprimands and deprivation are also used in both genders.
