Researchers had conducted experiments on the utilization of Fly ash as a partial replacement for cement in the production of concrete. At present, it is recommended that up to 20% replacement of fly ash be done on concrete for it to gain sufficient strength. It is yet to be seen if this percentage limit can be applicable in the manufacture of concrete hollow blocks. Given mix designs of 1:18 and 1:15 cement-aggregate, testing on the compressive strength of concrete hollow blocks with fly ash replacing 0% up to 50% of the total cement used in each mix. Recommendations are given on the optimum percentage replacement of cement by fly ash for the manufacture of concrete hollow blocks. Absorption tests were done to compare permeability of fly ash mixed hollow blocks. Cost-benefit analyses were also done to explore the financial aspect of fly ash replacement. Based from the experiments conducted, the CHB with fly ash cement replacement have lower compressive strength than ordinary CHB. However, the absorption of concrete hollow blocks with fly ash was found to be lesser.
