Description
Summary:Rotating biological contractors of RBCs are a type of technology that combine two established processes in wastewater treatment, namely, aeration and biological decomposition of organic matter. In this thesis, a modification of the conventional RBC is presented as a solution to treating wastewater. The setup is designed in such a way that there is a recirculation of the wastewater to be treated. The most important objective of the machine is the reduction of BOD of simulated wastewater from a milk-processing plant. Simulated wastewater is used to physically avoid any fluctuations in influent composition, thus producing more precise data for analysis. The results obtained from the experiments are promising. Analysis of the data obtained shows a maximum BOD reduction of 85.60% for a 12 hour residence time operation enhanced with hydrogen peroxide on a wastewater with an influent BOD of 1257.80 mg/L. For the given range of BOD tested, it is able to reduce the BOD present to a significant degree.
