Summary: | The amount of rebar waste is already known even during the preparation of a bar bending and cutting list. The waste produced is due to the limited number of available commercial lengths. Because of this the preparation of a bar cutting list is made difficult because of the number of possibilities one could come up with in trying to obtain the required length from the available commercial lengths. And with each combination there is a corresponding amount of waste.
A survey was conducted to know how civil engineers prepare their bar cutting and bending list. Part of the survey showed that majority of engineers have not encountered computer programs that could help them in preparing this said task. The survey also noted how the respondents of the survey thought of using a computer program in their preparation of a bar cutting list.
Based on the survey a computer program was developed to help engineers in their preparation of a bar cutting list. Because of the computer program's ability to look into most of the possible combination it could then select the one, which could yield the least amount of waste. |
