Description
Summary:The purpose of this study was to determine the types of online relationships, the process of developing such relationships, as well as, identify factors, psychological and social, affecting the individual in the process. Surveys were distributed among De La Salle students and interviews were then conducted to 12 respondents. The results suggested that respondents go through five stages in the development of online relationships, namely, meeting online, getting to know each other, developing a relationship, meeting in person, and continuing the relationship. In the process, psychological factors such as need to belong, need for affiliation, and loneliness and social factors such as physical attractiveness, similarity, and repeated exposure affected the individual. The most common types of online relationships are friendships and intimate relationships.
