Dreams of the blind : a developmental investigation.

The researchers proposed to determine the similarities and differences in the dream content of the congenitally blind across developmental stages. To make this possible, the researchers requested 2 congenitally blind children, 2 adolescents and 2 adults to participate in this study. The participants were asked to record their most recent dreams using a tape recorder, with a minimum of 5 entries, for 3 days. The participants also had undergone an interview for further clarification and additional information about their recorded dreams. After transcribing the tapes, the data was systematically analyzed and categorized. Results showed that there are characteristics similar in all three stages, which the researchers presume the basic features of dreams. Furthermore, as cognitive ability is developed, more details are manifested in dreams.
