Fengh shui : a cosmic insurance policy? a study of selected Filipino-Chinese business owners' perceptions on the practices of geomancy.

Abstract. The researchers studied the perceptions of 12 selected business owners whose businesses are located in Manila's Chinatown around the Binondo area regarding feng shui. Specifically, this study identified and described the following: motivational factors that led to their application of feng shui, expectations prior to the application, actual feng shui principles applied and perceived effects after its application. For this study, a descriptive research design was utilized and in-depth interviews were conducted. A non-probability sampling design was used utilizing purposive sampling. The researchers interviewed 12 selected business owners whose businesses are located in Manila's Chinatown around the Binondo area and have applied feng shui in their businesses for at least 5 years. Findings revealed that respondents were motivated to apply feng shui because of their need to create order, to reduce anxiety, to achieve a sense of coherence and an illusion of power. Ten respondents experienced the positive effects of feng shui, as evidenced by bigger profits and better life. However, the remaining two respondents did not experience any change after applying feng shui.
