Summary: | The study determined the effects of using compressed earth blocks with interlocking configurations. There were three interlocking designs that the group come up. Utilizing only one mix design three interlocking configurations were tested and evaluated on its compressive and shear strength. The main objective of the study is to compare the effects of the interlocking configuration of the blocks in its compressive and shear strength with respect to conventional mortar laying of the blocks focusing only on individual blocks.
Based on the experiments conducted, the shear strength of the interlocking grooves were sufficient enough to carry loads compared to that of using the conventional mortar laying in solid plain CEBs. However, the strength of the interlocking CEBs must considered to be high strength.
Out of three interlocking configurations made and tested in the study, one proved to be the most effective and strongest. In the production of the blocks in the study, practically less skill was needed in producing the blocks.
The study shows the possibility of using Interlocking Compressed Earth Blocks as an alternative for CHB and mortar laid blocks because of the abundance and availability of its material resources and having passed all standards and requirements for its compressive strength based on previous studies and experiments. |
