The effect of the requester's sex and social status on the helping behavior of college students.

The study is about the helping behavior of college students. The factors, sex and social status of the requester, were measured through the rating of a story varied in six (6) ways. Two hundred forty (240) college sophomore students from a private university were randomly selected to participate in the study. Results showed that the requester's sex did not significantly affect their helping behavior. However, it was found that people of high social status were significantly helped more often. There was no interaction effect found between sex and social status. Based from the results, the researchers concluded that people of high social status are helped more often, regardless of sex. Further study with a broader and much larger sample size is recommended since the sample is not representative of the population.
