Summary: | The purpose of the study is to examine the livid experiences of martial artists during the pre-injury, rehabilitation and post injury stage of the recalling of the most severe of injuries incurred during their martial arts lives. The pre-injury and post-injury phases aim to divulge the self-esteem and identity of the martial artist during those phases while the rehabilitation phase constitutes the participants' stress response, coping mechanism, cognitive beliefs/appraisals, external sources and personality to take into account their reactions. 9 respondents were interviewed using semi-structured interview providing guide questions in which focus and aim to have the participants recalling of the story as a narrative analysis as the main goal in acquiring information. The implementation of structural narrative analysis will be implemented in order to analyze the data. The study found out that most participants relied heavily on external resources in order to cope during the rehabilitation process and that their identities pre-injury as compared to post-injury change as they implement and express themselves differently as individuals and martial artists. The researchers hope that their data will be used in future studies concerning coping mechanisms and athletic sub-groups. |
