Summary:The purpose of this research is to identify factors that impact the last bite phenomenon. The last bite phenomenon is an ethic, practice, mannerism, generosity or shame, for some, in which there is always a piece of food left on a plate that no one would attempt to take it. People often consider how their actions influence others when making decisions. However, people are not equally generous to everyone alike. The willingness to share resources declines as a function of social distance between the decision maker and the recipient. In this study the researchers would like to see the influence of Social Relationship in the context of familiarity which means the person will more likely to give up the last bite if the person knew the other person less. Another variable that they considered is Impression Management. An Impression Management scale was adapted to the intercultural context, and data were collected through experiment in Metro Manila, Philippines. The researchers assigned a manipulated group to the random participants. Group A referred to the group which the participants should be unfamiliar with each other while Group B referred to the group that the participants should be close friends with each other. After which, the participants were given an informed consent with a brief background using a cover story to assure unawareness of the participants with the main purpose of the whole study which was the last bite phenomenon. Results have shown that impression management and social relationship have no significant effect in the last bite but the researchers have found out that age has marginally significant effect in the last bite phenomenon.
