The Mediating role of intrinsic motivation in the relationship between causality orientations and student engagement

The research paper aims to find out if causality orientation predicts a student's level of engagement in school and if intrinsic motivation affects the relationship between causality orientations and a student's level of engagement in school. The researchers used Self-Determination Theory to build on their concept and used causality orientation as their determining factor in knowing a student's level of engagement. The survey was given to 378 participants, 189 female and 189 male. The results showed that hypothesis 1 and 2 were partially correct. Control produces the highest level of engagement in hypothesis 1. There is a full mediation of intrinsic motivation between the relationship of autonomy orientation and student engagement in hypothesis 2.
