Breakup distress: A mixed methods study of factors of time elapsed between relationship dissolution & the formation of a new relationship

The researchers performed a mixed method design of combining both the qualitative and quantitative method. The researchers conducted a survey on intimacy through the Miller's Social Intimacy Scale (MSIS) to 200 participants, ages 20-25 from Metro Manila then from the 200, 12 were chosen for interview about their breakup, recovery and entering in a new relationship. The researchers tested on three factors that have a relationship with time elapsed and these are: level of intimacy, number of previous relationships and duration of most recent previous relationship. All factors were found to have a weak relationship with time elapsed. It was concluded that the process of moving on from one relationship to the next depends on the quality of the previous relationship, most importantly with intimacy.
