Summary: | The study explored the direct and indirect relationship of socioeconomic status, social expectations on mothers, and parental stress with child rearing values and practices. It also explored the relationship of child rearing values to practices. The study was done based on correlational and survey research designs. The sample consisted of 250 Filipino urban mothers who have had at least one child that was within the age range of 9-18 years old. Data was analyzed through the use of Multiple Regression with Mediation Analysis and Hierarchical Regression Analysis. Results have shown that all variables shared a significant and direct relationship with each other. On the other hand, socioeconomic status and parental stress shared an indirect relationship with three child rearing practices (sensitivity, expression of affection and interaction through play with the exception of verbal communication) partially mediated by both subscales of child rearing values (values of conformity and values of autonomy). While social expectations shared an indirect relationship with three child rearing practices (exception of sensitivity) partially mediated by child rearing values of conformity but fully mediated by values of autonomy. The results supported the studys hypotheses that the variables would have a direct relationship to each other and would be mediated by child rearing values however, some results were contrary to the some of the predictions made. |
