Career success, fears, and disposition of older executive workers in selected private companies and government offices

The study explored the two important factors (family and workplace) that influence career success, fears, and disposition of older workers in private companies and government offices. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with twenty older workers, aged 50 to 60. The interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The study found themes for each factor, which were also consistent with the related literatures. Family and workplace factors play a role in helping a person achieve career success. The effects of career success and its attendant fears on the disposition of older workers are that they are focused on improving their selves by renewing spiritual relationship and relationships with family and friends. Other effects include contentment and worrying about the future. The study contributes to the growing studies in industrial and organizational Psychology and the less tapped topic concerning older workers approaching retirement years.
