Summary: | This paper presents a different approach to the flood risk assessment in the City of Malolos with the use of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and Geographic in Malolos with the use of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and Geographic Information System (GIS). MCDA was used to look into the weights of the main factors known to affect the risk index of the area namely: hazard, vulnerability, exposure, and capacity (soft and hard countermeasures). GIS on the other hand was used to show visual information of the different indices and variation of each barangay with the different factors considered. Analysis was carried out mainly with the use of 2010 census data and values gathered from the barangay profiles from the City Planning and Development Office of the City of Malolos. The resulting flood risk index map shows clearly the very high risk barangay's which shall be the focus of flood mitigation projects. These barangay's found to be of very high risk after the analysis were Santo Cristo, Caliligawan, Santo Rosario, Mojon, Catmon, Namayan, Calero, Masile, Mambog, Caniogan, Santiagp, Matimbo, Liang, Bangkal, and San Gabriel. Focusing flood mitigation projects in these barangay's can significantly decrease the risk index of the whole city of Malolos by increasing the coping capacity of each barangay. |
