Description
Summary:This research explored the possibilities of incorporating pre-defined personalities chosen by the player for each character in an interactive game. The challenge here is to adapt the personality of the main character, which undergoes development through the users actions, towards other characters as the story progresses. The XNA framework 3.1 was implemented as the foundation of the system. The user can choose a pre-defined character with initial personality values. A storytelling approach was implemented wherein the story would progress to a specific branch given the personality of the main character and the choice taken by the user during the event. The personality of the main character is continuously updated after the outcome of each event therefore developing the personality upon the users actions. The story was presented through 2D visual assets within a 2D virtual world. Test results showed that the personalities of the system's stories were present in a high school environment. The high school students who evaluated the system reacted positively towards the personalities and the story mainly due to its relevance to their experiences. The personality development was apparent through the choices taken in the course of the story.
