Description
Summary:This study aims to identify how gym goers of varying age and gender, could be similar or different from one another. Other essential details, such as (1) their reasons and goals for going to the gym, (2) the factors that affect them towards their view of their body, and (3) the changes that occurred upon being a gym goer were also studied to determine their perception and conception of their own body image. The researchers used a multi-method approach. First, 150 respondents were randomly selected and were asked to answer a survey questionnaire in order to gather useful facts and information regarding people who go to the gyms. Out of the 150 respondents, 48 people who qualified in the researchers' classification of a gym goer were randomly chosen to be interviewed for a deeper understanding and explanation of certain patterns of behaviors and beliefs which they had encountered. Qualitative content analysis, through category of responses, was performed both from the data gathered from the survey and interviews. Trends and differences in the gathered data were discussed comparing beliefs, views, and ideas of four different groups of gym goers, each divided according to age and gender.
