Ling, Joshua A. Martinez, Matthew Cristi C. This study deals with the Vermicast production system of Kahariam Reality and Farms, Inc. which functions to produce and sell certified organic fertilizer called Vermicast that is the top revenue earner of the company. The Vermicast Department is having difficulty in fulfilling the monthly customer demand of 43 sacks during the wet season, and 96 sacks in the dry season. Due to that, some of their customer refuse to re-order, leading to an unmet demand of 2,620 sacks in wet season (June to December of 2013) and 1, 555 sacks per month in dry season (January to May of 2014) that leads to total opportunity loss of PHP 1,461,250.00 The problem was rooted in three main issues with the production process, namely: (1) worker spends 43% of the time manually watering each vermibin every work day (2) absence of a standard temperature expose in the drying area, and (3) incur of idle time in sieving process due to filling and measuring of sack contents do not occur simultaneously. To solve these problems, the researchers designed a layout plan for a sprinkler system to minimize workers needed for tasks unrelated to the harvesting process, applied thermodynamic principles to generate the specifications of a new technology for the air drying process, and remolded the tasks conducted by workers in the sieving process. In addition, supplementary solutions were developed for the department to cope up with improvements made. This was also accompanied by measures to avoid potential problems brought about by the proposed solutions. Opportunity cost was eliminated and the process lead times for the air drying process decreased by 91.67% in wet season and 9.6% in dry season. Overall, the Vermicast Department is expected to increase output per day by 25 sacks per day which meets the target daily demand and will incur a savings of Php 1,930,800 annually. 2014-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/10789 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Vermicomposting Kahariam Reality and Farms, Inc.
