This study examined the factors that facilitate and hinder celebrities' effectiveness in Factors influencing celebrities effectiveness as social activists to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS worldwide Questionnaires were administered to 3 nationalities prominent in the Philippines namely Chinese, Filipinos and Koreans, whose responses differ based on their background. The results of the study indicated the youth's definition of a social activist and their definition of a celebrity and determined how celebrities are effective as social activists. It identified celebrities who were recognized by the youth as individuals who are involved in this campaign and were acknowledged as effective social activists. The results revealed that the youth perceive celebrities as effective social activists in promoting awareness of HIV/AIDS, changing people's perception regarding this issue, launching fundraising programs and lobbying for policy change. The principal conclusion was that celebrities are seen as very effective in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS through their visibility to media and access to people of influence however their effectiveness is deterred by youth's lack of awareness towards celebrities efforts and difficulty in areas such as lobbying for policy formation. 2010-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/10801 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository HIV (Viruses)--Social aspects AIDS (Disease)--Social aspects International and Area Studies
